Stars on show in Canberra
By Netball ACT
The ACT Sports Minister’s Invitational Seven (BARRbarians) has defeated the ACT Media 17-13 in yesterday’s Celebrity Netball Match at the AIS Arena. The successful team pictured above is: Top Row Left to Right – Sarah Body (Capital Football); Jill McIntosh (former Australian National Netball Team Player and Head Coach); Rob de Castella (famous Olympic Marathon Runner); Mark Cartwright (CEO, One Basketball Canberra); Bottom Row Left to Right – Senator Kate Lundy (Federal Senator for the ACT); Minister Andrew Barr (Captain and ACT Sports Minister); Andrew Fagan (CEO, ACT Brumbies); and Ivan Slavich (CEO, ACTEWAGL). ACT Sports Minister Andrew Barr was outstanding for the BARRbarians, although was left flat on his back in the first half after receiving a Buddy Franklin like ‘bump’ from FM104.7’s Kiwi Gee. Kiwi Gee now faces a nervous wait as Netball ACT’s judiciary panel examines replay footage of the incident. If found guilty Kiwi Gee faces a Grade 3 charge, meaning he could miss next year’s return match. Minister Barr would not comment about the incident after the match simply saying ‘I’ll let the judiciary handle the situation.’ The ACT Media was best served by Ross Solly (ABC Radio) whose battle with Rob De Castella and the umpires was a feature, Mark Parton (2CC Radio) whose close marking of Lacey Borg (Canberra Darters) resembled an audition tape (Tango) for the next series of Dancing with the Stars, Erin Molan (WIN TV) whose goal shooting had more takes than the set of Underbelly 3 and Lachlan Kennedy (WIN TV) whose running game looked like a scene from the Benny Hill Show. The BARRbarians left the court looking forward to some positive coverage of their magnificent win in today’s local media. GOOD LUCK. Netball ACT plans to hold the Celebrity Match as an annual event.
