Australian 21/U team win first game at WYNC

By Netball Australia

To the strains of Advance Australia Fair sung by local children from St Josephs Primary School, the Australian 21/U team hit the court for their first game of the World Youth Netball Championships (WYNC) against South Africa. The Australians dominated all game to win 73-26, with coach Simone Mckinnis giving all players an opportunity on court. Trying a range of combinations Mckinnis was happy with the standard of play. “I was very pleased with the quality of play,” McKinnis said. “It was consistent regardless of which combination was on court.” It was a gallant effort from all players despite some close checking by their South African opponents. The defenders read the play well throughout the game, creating turnovers and moving the ball quickly through the centre court and on to the shooters, who shot with superb accuracy. After putting a convincing victory on the board Australia will look to build momentum through the rest of the round games and into the finals. Australia will now face Samoa tomorrow.
