Plummer to select Diamonds after five-day camp

By Netball Australia

The Australian Netball Diamonds Squad has one final chance to impress national coach Norma Plummer
when they go into camp at the Australian Institute of Sport (AIS) today.

Netball Australia will announce Plummer’s Australian Diamonds on Monday, following five days of
intense training, fitness testing and squad-on-squad match play in Canberra.

With a squad of 22 players vying for just 12 spots, Plummer is looking for a fit and versatile unit that can
handle a rigorous international campaign.

“With the work load in front of us we are looking for fit players,” Plummer said.

“We are looking for players that are going to be able to handle the work load that’s in front of us – we
have a lot of netball between now and the end of October.

“What we need to know is that players can stand up to the conditions that are going to be confronting
them with all the Test matches, the World Netball Series and all the travel.”

With Diamonds captain Sharelle McMahon back from injury, the squad includes seven world class
shooters and with a limited number of spots available Plummer faces some tough decisions.

Coming off the ANZ Championship season, the seven shooters will have this final camp to prove their
worth.

With the Commonwealth Games next year and the World Championships in 2011, Plummer will seek
the right blend of experience and youth, putting pressure on all 12 Diamond spots.

“I picked 22 in the squad to start to put the pressure on everybody for positions leading into 2010 and
2011, so from last year four players have left the squad and six new faces are in.

“The team is evolving and players have to understand that’ll it’ll be the fitness levels, the performance
levels and how they look after themselves to see if they get across the line to be at the Commonwealth
Games and World Championships.

“There is a long way to go between now and playing in a Grand Final in the World Championships.

“It’s important we are picking the right blend that’s why it’s important we give everyone the best
opportunity.

The Australian Netball Diamonds will be announced on Monday 10 August.
