AIS dominates Round 1 in ANL

By Netball Australia

The AIS has dominated the first round of the 2009 New Idea Australian Netball League (ANL) with victories over both NSW sides in Canberra.

In a round where only three teams were involved, the AIS won its matches against the Netball NSW Waratahs and NSW Blues.

In the opening game on Friday the AIS defeated Netball NSW Waratahs, 52-45 in a tight tussle.

Leading by four at the half-time break the Waratahs couldn’t hold on with the AIS storming home to a seven-goal victory.

On Saturday, the AIS backed-up to face the NSW Blues.

The Blues got off to a flying start leading 12-6 at the half-time break however a strong second quarter by the experienced AIS side ensured they were in front at the main change.

The second half was a see-sawing affair with the AIS holding strong to come out 46-43 victors.
Round 2 of ANL action sees nine teams compete with games in NSW and Queensland.
