Game Report: Western Australia have recorded a three goal victory against Tasmania in Round 6 of the 19/U DealsDirect.com.au National Championships. Western Australia dominated the first quarter to lead 12-4 at the first break and looked like they were going to have an easy game ahead of them. Tess Cransberg was impressive at centre, and Ellie Smart moved well around the WA goal circle. TAS improved their attacking skills in the second quarter with Hayley Sansom and Jacqui Witt opening up the goal circle for each other. TAS were unable to close the gap on WA, and at half-time made positional changes before going into the second half. WA’s Cransberg continued to be useful down the court in both attack and defense, and Smart was unstoppable scoring from anywhere in the circle. TAS applied more defensive pressure towards the end of the quarter and WA found it more difficult to work the ball into their goal third. WA were confident going into the last quarter five goals ahead, 28-23, but TAS were prepared to fight for the win. Chelsea Coleman came into goal shooter for TAS and was unstoppable from the first centre pass, holding her position, blocking her player, rolling nicely, and shooting accurately to bring her team back in the game. TAS were just one goal down by the time the clock reached two minutes, but WA held their ground with Mia Washbourne showing good defensive skills in the midcourt, and Smart shooting accurately from a distance. WA came away with the win 37-34.
