Game Report: Australian Capital Terrtiory have recored their first win of the 19/U DealsDirect.com.au National Championship with a gutsy win against the Northern Territory. With nerves apparent in the opening quarter both teams went goal for goal. NT had the better of the score-line at quarter-time leading 8-7. NT’s centre Eulaly Allen was strong through the middle while NT’s goal shooter Jess Johannsen was accurate in the goal circle. Going into the second quarter the NT team applied good defensive pressure and were able to pick off a few turnovers. For ACT Hayley Reid attacked the ball into the goal circle, and applied defensive pressure all the way down court and at centre passes. ACT took the lead for the first time in the third quarter with Amy Morschel contesting well in goal keeper against Johannsen. ACT were unable to keep up the momentum and NT came back to be ahead one goal going into the final quarter. At the first centre pass ACT evened the scoreboard with a quick goal, and then it was goal for goal again. The pressure was mounting as the match drew to a close with both teams making unforced errors and throwing bad passes in their goal thirds. ACT picked up their game and a couple of quick turnovers and goals saw them take the lead by five. Morschel was reading the play well for ACT took some big intercepts to fire her team up for the win. ACT, 34-29, over NT.
