Game Report: A strong South Australian side has defeated the Northern Territory in the 19/U DealsDirect.com.au National Championships at ETSA Park on Friday. SA appeared the dominant force from the first whistle, leading 5-1 in the first three minutes of play. Standing at a towering 195cm tall, NT’s goal shooter Jess Johannsen was given a tough job against last year’s San Remo 17/U MVP, goal keeper Kate Shimmin. SA led 4-12 at the quarter time break with mid-court players Leah Thompson, Lyndall Crichton and Nicola Yeeles fighting for every ball. Whilst NT’s defence remained tight, SA managed to turn over many balls and hold a steady, 9-24 lead at half-time. Despite a height disadvantage, SA’s Melissa Fuge shot accurately partnering well with goal attack Laura Marslen. SA powered through the third quarter allowing NT to only score one goal and started the final quarter with a 24-goal advantage. Both sides centre players Chloe Joyce and Jessica Moller fought a hard battle through the mid-court showing extreme determination and athleticism. The home side ran home with a 36-goal win, 48-12 with both teams able to take positives out of their match for their games tonight. As the finals draw near, SA faces Queensland while NT will take on Australia Capital Territory with both matches expected to be competitive tussles.
