New South Wales has defeated Queensland in a tight game at the 19/U DealsDirect.com.au National Netball Championships today, 39-24.
In a tight opening quarter NSW goal shooter Melissa Tallent shone with some great shots, while centre Claire Haigh moved the ball well down the court for QLD, leaving the scores tied at seven-all at the end of the quarter.
The crowd rallied behind QLD in the second quarter, the loudest cheers coming from their 17/U side.
QLD managed to break away to a four goal lead before NSW settled back into the game with the quarter finishing 15-13 in favour of QLD.
The third quarter belonged to NSW with excellent feeding from the new centre on court Verity Simmons and more outstanding shooting from Tallent scoring eight goals from nine attempts with NSW finishing the quarter with a 6-goal lead.
The introduction of Emma Tickner into goal defence and Chanel Gomes pulled back to goal keeper for QLD at half-time tried to stem the flow of the NSW shooters but the precision of passing from midcourt to attacking players was almost flawless.
NSW blew the game wide open in the last quarter having a lead of 14 goals with 4 minutes left on the clock. With immense defensive pressure, a flowing midcourt and iron-strong shooting, NSW scored 39 goals to QLD’s 24.
