Game Report: South Australia have triumphed over defending champions New South Wales with a thrilling one-goal win, 24-23. From the first quarter it looked to be a close game with both teams attacking fiercely, with nothing between the two teams scores were locked 8-all at quarter time. SA came out blazing in the second quarter with outstanding defence from goal keeper Kate Shimmin. Accurate shooting by SA shooters Laura Packard and Laura Marslen gave SA a four goal lead and confidence boost going into half-time. In the third quarter New South Wales fought back with excellent defence by wing defence Gabi Simpson, while circle defenders Sophie Metcalfe and Samantha Poolman were tight on their players in the goal circle. SA scored in the final seconds of the third quarter to be one goal up going into the final term, 19-18. A great intercept by Simpson in the beginning of the last quarter brought the game back to even scores. In the last five minutes SA were one goal up, but a held ball gave NSW an easy opportunity to even the scores again. It was goal for goal in the remaining minutes of the game, with scores even in the last thirty seconds. With pressure mounting SA scored a crucial turn over and went on to make sure of the winning goal. The final score was 24-23.
