Game Report: Queensland have backed up their 2009 Grand Final appearance, with a comfortable 40 – 25 win over Tasmania, in their first round DealsDirect.com.au 19/U National Championship match at ETSA Park on Wednesday. But the win did not come easily, with Tasmania still a chance to win at three quarter time. The first quarter was extremely competitive, with Tasmania displaying slick ball movement and Queensland captain Rosie Tone showing strength as goal shooter. Despite an early Queensland break, Tasmania went into quarter time with a 9 – 7 lead. In the second term, Chelsea Coleman remained a focal point up forward for Tasmania, but her opportunities were limited as Queensland’s efficiency improved dramatically. Queensland looked far more dangerous as the half wore on, hitting targets and gaining confidence, turning a quarter time deficit into a 17 – 12 half-time advantage. Tasmania staged something of a revival in the third quarter, led by the hard work of wing attack Zoe Brown, centre Sarah Lyons and the sharp shooting of Jacqui Witt. It was several steadying goals late in the quarter that secured Queensland a 26 – 22 buffer at the final break. Queensland dominated the final term, putting together a 14 goal to three quarter of netball. Hard working Queensland wing attack Sarah Ruka was inspirational, pulling off several interceptions and providing her teammates with numerous opportunities. Tasmania fought hard right throughout the match, but it was Queensland who powered home to win 40 – 25. In the round, Queensland will meet Victoria, while Tasmania will face off against the Australian Capital Territory. Game Sheet | 1st Qtr| 2nd Qtr| 3rd Qtr| 4th Qtr
